Quinoa: The Mother Grain

quinoa super food for the inca

Why is Quinoa good for you?

Quinoa is another super food built for eternity. While the chia seed was the strength that built the Aztecs, the “Mother Grain” was the super food behind the Incas. The Inca were one of the most impressive societies in our hemispheric history, whose ruins to this day represent some of the foremost archaeological splendors on Earth. Quinoa, or the mother grain as it was known, is one of the most powerful super foods in the world.

As a powerful addition to Planet Protein’s Peanut Butter Cup bar, we love quinoa! Here’s why you should too:

Quinoa is gluten-free and full of complete proteins

Quinoa is known as a pseudo-cereal. In actuality it is a seed cooked much like rice. Quinoa is naturally gluten-free, and one of the best sources of BCAA’s found in nature. It’s a Non-GMO, often organic whole grain.

Quinoa contains large amounts of flavonoids

While they may sound more like an alien species, flavonoids are among the greatest benefits of a plant based diet. Flavonoids are plant sourced antioxidants that have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and even anti-depressant effects. Quinoa is a significant source of these vitalizing trace nutrients.

Nothing speaks to us more than high protein, high fiber.

Fiber is the nutrient lost in the shuffle of the western diet more than any other. It is a vital element in curbing hunger, digestive health, and lower cholesterol. Quinoa has twice the fiber of most grains!

Ahead of their time, it’s no wonder the Incas were able to reach such heights. The nutty wholesomeness of quinoa is a powerful super food for an active, productive lifestyle and one we’re happy to include in our Planet Protein bars.
