How To Go Vegan: The Transition

If you’ve found yourself reading this article, it’s likely you’re considering transitioning to a Vegan lifestyle or you’ve already committed to the transition. Either way: Congratulations on taking your first steps to living a healthier, more eco-friendly, and cruelty free lifestyle! If you were to google “how to go vegan” right now, you’d get about 397,000,000 results. That’s a little overwhelming. But listen, it doesn’t have to be - going vegan is all about what feels right to you. Some people go vegan overnight, some transition to a vegetarian lifestyle and gradually make the switch, and others replace a few animal products here and there with plant alternatives until they’re ready to go all the way. The process you follow and how quickly you move through it, is completely up to you. Here’s some tips that may work for you and help make the transition go smoothly.

1. Swap

If you’re not ready to take the plunge completely or worry about “missing” any of the food or ingredients you’re accustomed to having, consider a swap! Many people find that the easiest approach for them is to substitute plant alternatives gradually. Some easy switches include : Milk = Almond milk, Oat Milk, Soy Milk, or Rice Milk Eggs = Scrambled Tofu Honey = Agave Syrup, Maple Syrup Butter = Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Cream = Coconut Cream Meat Alternatives = Jackfruit, Tofu, Tempeh, Seitan

2. Find a community

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t give up. The online presence of the vegan community is HUGE! You’re only a quick google search away from finding tons of resources, meal plans, and even entire groups of people who are willing to give you one on one advice and answer your questions. Plus, you’re only an email, Instagram DM, or tweet away from us! If you ever need help finding substitutes, getting support, or answering general questions, the vegan community is here to help you!

3. Remember your why

Everyone who has ever made the transition to Veganism has had a reason. It could be health related, earth-driven, with the welfare of animals in mind or for numerous other reasons. Whatever your reason is – hold onto it! You’ll likely find that the transition isn’t as difficult as you’d imagine, but keeping your “why” in mind will reaffirm your commitment.
